Boschker howler helps Spurs in Champs League
Twente goalkeeper Sander Boschker reckons his howler that gifted Tottenham Hotspur a 1-0 lead in their Champions League match on Tuesday was just one of those things.
The game eventually finished 3-3, ensuring that Spurs finished top of Group A, ahead of holder Inter Milan.
But there was an embarrassing start for the home side when Boschker miscued his attempt to clear the ball after a clumsy backpass by captain Peter Wisgerhof.
''It can happen,'' Boschker said of his blunder. ''I thought I had the ball but obviously that wasn't the case.''
Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes was sympathetic and blamed a slippery playing surface for the error.
''I feel sorry for him,'' Gomes said. ''I think I was so close to doing the same in the second half. I think it's because of the pitch.''
Twente coach Michel Preud'homme, a former Belgium goalkeeper, also felt the keeper was not the only problem.
''What can you do?'' he said. ''You just have to avoid the backpasses.''
