Bordeaux will have to fix its defensive frailties if it is to overcome a two-goal deficit against Lyon in Wednesday's second leg of the Champions League quarterfinals.
Two defensive blunders and a penalty gave Lyon a 3-1 victory in the first leg last week.
"Even though we'll have to score (at least) two goals, the key will be to defend well," Bordeaux coach Laurent Blanc said. "If we succeed in correcting those defensive mistakes, we can hope for something great on Wednesday.
"We have very little time to adjust. I hope that we'll adjust by Wednesday. I believe that we can achieve this feat."
Before the first leg, Bordeaux was leading the French league and had the last unbeaten record in Europe's top club competition.
Now, the defending French champion's season is taking an ugly turn. The team has lost three straight games for the first time this season.
Marseille beat Bordeaux 3-1 in the League Cup final on March 27 before the Lyon loss in Europe. On Saturday, Bordeaux lost 2-1 to Nancy to surrender the lead in the French league to Lyon, which won 2-1 at Rennes.
"Nobody expects us to knock Lyon out of the Champions League," Blanc said. "But it could be a source of motivation for the players."
Bordeaux will rely on Morocco forward Marouane Chamakh, France playmaker Yoann Gourcuff and Brazilian midfielder Geraldo Wendel to crack the Lyon defense.
"We expect a very complicated match," Lyon goalkeeper Hugo Lloris said. "The first 20 minutes will be decisive because Bordeaux will try everything to reverse the momentum before its fans."
Lyon is looking to make history as it has never reached the Champions League semifinals.
In its three previous quarterfinals, Lyon was never in a commanding position after the opening leg. It lost to FC Porto in 2004 in the first leg and drew with PSV Eindhoven and AC Milan the two following years.
"Every player dreams of participating in a Champions League semifinal," Lloris said. "An elimination at this stage of the competition would represent a real failure for the club."
Lyon can be vulnerable on the road - it lost 1-0 at Fiorentina in the group stage - but the team showed it can defend an advantage by drawing 1-1 at Real Madrid in the previous round.
Lyon's task, however, will be more difficult than in the first leg as Argentine forward Lisandro Lopez and France winger Sidney Govou are both suspended.
Cameroon midfielder Jean Makoun II will also be missing after injuring his groin in the first leg, while center back Mathieu Bodmer is doubtful after hurting his hamstring at Rennes.
Bordeaux midfielder Alou Diarra returns from suspension, but the team will be without Fernando Menegazzo due to a fractured cheekbone and defender Marc Planus may not be fit despite recovering from a knee injury.
