Blues boss asks fans to behave

The club are under police investigation after fans invaded the St Andrew's pitch to confront Aston Villa fans following their Carling Cup quarter-final win. The ugly scenes put shame on English football as fans traded flares and missiles with a row of riot police sandwiched between the mayhem on December 1. Birmingham can expect to be fined for failing to control their supporters and McLeish is aware the fans will be in the spotlight as much as his side at Molineux on Sunday. "The supporters are under pressure," he told The Sun. "Just as we're under pressure to get results and behave ourselves on the pitch, they've got to do likewise. "We expect our fans to give the players everything but also to make it a trouble-free game. I think that was an isolated incident, a one-off." In-form Birmingham have lost just once in their last 10 outings while, in contrast, Wolves have five defeats in their last six with boss Mick McCarthy under pressure. McCarthy kept his side up comfortably with a 15th-placed finish last term and, with Newcastle making a shock dismissal of Chris Hughton this week, McLeish admits the industry can be ruthless. "Stability is the right way forward," he said. "I'm disappointed for Chris Hughton and from where I was watching, he was doing a great job. "Most managers have earned the right to be given some time and I don't even know why I'm involved in a conversation about Mick. The former Rangers boss added: "He's done a fantastic job and they're not playing badly. "He will take criticism for the position - phone-ins, letters - and it's the same for me if I lose a game. "We know the kind of profession and business that we're in. It's about growing a thick skin and trying not to be too distracted by the negative voices but at the same time we know it's a results-based business."
