Bruno Bini has been fired as France women's team coach and replaced by Under-18 boss Philippe Bergeroo.

French Football Federation president Noel Le Graet says Tuesday ''we have a lot of respect for Bruno ... but it was time to change.''

Bini's departure follows France's disappointing quarterfinal exit to Denmark in the European Championship earlier this month.

The 58-year-old Bini took charge of the women's team in 2007. He steered France to the Euro 2009 quarterfinals and the 2011 World Cup semifinals, where it lost to the United States.

Bini has twice finished third in FIFA voting for women's coach of the year.

In the men's game, Bergeroo coached Paris Saint-Germain from 1999-2001 and has worked with several of France's junior teams, leading the Under-17s to the 2004 European Championship.
