Belgium took advantage of the early sending-off of Wales defender James Collins to begin its World Cup qualifying campaign with a 2-0 win in Group A on Friday.

Vincent Kompany opened the scoring with a near-post header in the 42nd minute - 17 minutes after Collins was shown a straight red card for a reckless lunge on Guillaume Gillet.

Another center back, Jan Vertonghen, made the game safe for the visitors in the 82nd when he smashed a 25-yard free kick into the corner.

Belgium is the favorite in the pool along with Croatia - and the two teams meet on Tuesday as they look to begin group play with two straight wins.
