Bayern advances, Cologne upset
Bayern Munich advanced to the German Cup semifinals by overwhelming
second-division Greuther Fuerth 6-2 in the second half Wednesday.
Bayern, a record 14-time German Cup winner, trailed 2-1 at
halftime but scored five unanswered goals after the break. Thomas
Mueller scored two goals for Bayern and Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery
and Philipp Lahm added the others, with Fuerth's Sami Allagui
scoring an own goal. Allagui also scored one of the two goals for
his team.
Second-division Augsburg upset eight man Cologne 2-0. Adil
Chihi was sent off after 30 minutes and Lukas Podolski and Petit
got red cars in the second half, both for contesting the referee's
decisions. Podolski, coming back after a back injury, was a
substitute and spent eight minutes on the field before getting sent
off.
Kevin Kuranyi scored the only goals for Schalke in a 1-0 win
at third-division Osnabrueck, which had eliminated Hamburger SV and
Borussia Dortmund in the previous rounds.
Defending champion Werder Bremen beat Hoffenheim 2-1 on
Tuesday to reach the last four.
In the semifinals, Bayern will travel to Schalke and Werder
will host Augsburg. The matches will be played on March 23-24.
