Bardsley ponders Black Cats exit

The 24-year-old full-back made his first start since January at Liverpool on Sunday and has struggled to command a place under new boss Steve Bruce. Bardsley told BBC Radio Newcastle: "If it's to be at Sunderland, or somewhere else, all you want is to play football. I will look after myself and keep myself in the best shape that I can." Bardsley's favoured right-back spot has been filled in recent weeks by January loan signing Alan Hutton, who has been linked with a permanent move to Wearside during the summer. However, he has been asked to play in a variety of roles, including a brief spell in central midfield, and is happy to help out where he can. He said: "I'm one of those players, I will do what the manager wants me to do. I will step in wherever he needs me to step in and try to do my best."
