Austria defender Aleksandar Dragovic has left FC Basel to join Dynamo Kiev on a five-year deal reportedly worth 9 million euros ($11.9 million), making him the most expensive Austrian player.

The transfer fee exceeds the 6.5 million euro ($8.6 million) FC Twente paid for Salzburg striker Marc Janko three years ago.

Dragovic tells the Austria Press Agency the record ''is no special honor to me as we've got a lot of great players in Austria.''

Having started his career with Austria Vienna before moving to Basel in 2011, the 22-year-old Dragovic says ''Dynamo Kiev is the best club in Eastern Europe ... This move is fantastic for me, I've made the next step in my career.''

Dragovic is also a regular in the national team under coach Marcel Koller.
