Auckland City beats Al Ahly 2-0 at Club World Cup
Auckland City of New Zealand knocked out Al Ahly of Egypt in the opening round of the FIFA Club World Cup on Wednesday, winning 2-0 after goals from Adam Dickinson and Chad Coombes.
Dickinson scored in the 45th minute and Coombes made it 2-0 with a 30-meter strike in the 66th at Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium for the Oceania champions to advance to a quarterfinal against CONCACAF winner Atlante of Mexico.
Dickinson missed a chance in the 17th, sending his shot into goalkeeper Yousif Abdulla's legs.
Al Ahly captain Salem Khamis missed an open goal in first-half stoppage time for the African champions.
Al Ahly substitute Mehrzad Madanchi's shot from the edge of the area was tapped over the crossbar by the goalkeeper.
