Arsenal sign Egypt midfielder Elneny from Basel
Arsenal have announced the signing of midfielder Mohamed Elneny from Swiss club Basel.
The 23-year-old Egypt international won three consecutive Super League titles with Basel and also played in European competition.
Elneny is expected to offer some much-needed cover in midfield, with the likes of Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla still recovering from injury.
Arsenal added the deal was "subject to the completion of regulatory processes", but hope Elneny could feature in the squad at Stoke on Sunday.
Elneny hopes his arrival can contribute towards an ambitious treble this season.
With the Gunners top of the Premier League, in the fourth round of the FA Cup and the last 16 of the Champions League there is plenty to play for.
The latter seems the toughest target to achieve with Arsene Wenger's side drawn against defending champions Barcelona, but that has not stopped Elneny setting his sights high.
"I am hoping that we win the Premier League and cup this season, and the Champions League as well," he told Arsenal Player.
"Arsenal is one of the world's greatest teams, and I am very keen to participate positively with my new team and to give my best for the team and for myself.
"Arsenal is one of those teams that everyone enjoys watching and of course I would love to play for such a great team. It is an indescribable feeling (to have signed).
"Mr Wenger is a highly-respected manager and one of the world's best managers; it is my honor to be trained under his management.
"I would like to tell (the fans) that, although you have not seen much of me, I promise I will contribute positively with the team."
