Estudiantes sits at the top of the Clausura despite being held to a goalless draw by San Lorenzo.
The visitors were reduced to ten men by the 88th minute dismissal of Diego Placente but it was too late for the host to make anything of its advantage.
The result puts Estudiantes one point above River Plate and two ahead of Velez Sarsfield and San Lorenzo, but the three chasing clubs all have a game in hand on the leader.
Independiente are three points from the summit after three second-half goals in a 3-0 victory over Godoy Cruz.
