Independiente remained two points ahead of Godoy Cruz at the top of the Argentine Clausura standings after both teams claimed wins Sunday, while the showdown between Boca Juniors and River Plate was suspended due to rain.

Independiente had a 2-0 victory at home against Rosario Central, while Godoy Cruz beat defending champion Banfield 2-0. Arsenal de Sarandi won 2-0 against Gimnasia La Plata in the day's other match.

Boca was set to host River earlier Sunday, but torrential rain at the Bombonera stadium prompted referee Hector Baldassi to call the players off the pitch within 10 minutes after kickoff.

It's the first time the famous derby between Boca and River has been suspended during a match.

Pablo Paladino, head of the government department in charge of organizing security for public events, said the remaining 81 minutes of the fixture would be rescheduled for Thursday, with the kickoff time to be decided later.

Lucas Mareque opened the scoring for Independiente, beating several defenders and finishing with a left-foot strike from outside the area in the 78th minute.

Leonel Nunez scored the second with a low shot under goalkeeper Hernan Galindez after a counter attack in the 86th.

Leonardo Sigali's header gave Godoy Cruz the the lead at home against Banfield in the 19th minute. David Ramirez hit a diagonal volley from outside the area that dipped over goalkeeper Cristian Lucchetti for the second in the 75th.

Independiente has 23 points at the top of the table, followed by Godoy Cruz on 21 after 10 matches. River Plate has 12 points, four clear of Boca.

Arsenal de Sarandi won a mid-table match against Gimnasia La Plata with goals from Luciano Leguizamon in the 33rd and Mauro Obolo in the 79th.

In other results Friday and Saturday it was: Huracan 2, Chacarita 0; Atletico Tucuman 1, Estudiantes 3; San Lorenzo 2, Colon 2; Lanus 1, Racing Club 0; Newell's 1, Velez Sarsfield 1; Argentinos Juniors 1, Tigre 1.
