Apertura leader Boca held by Argentinos
League-leading Boca Juniors maintained its four-point lead atop the Argentine Apertura standings despite being held to a 0-0 draw by struggling Argentinos Juniors on Sunday.
In other matches on Sunday, Velez defeated Independiente 1-0, Tigre rallied to draw 1-1 with All Boys, San Lorezno drew 0-0 with Racing, and Belgrano of Cordoba defeated Estudiantes 3-2.
Boca, the early favorite to win the Apertura title, had little sustained possession in its draw with Argentinos Juniors, which have yet to win any of their first nine matches. The Buenos Aires club has five draws and four loses for five points.
Boca has six victories in nine matches for 21 points, four ahead of Racing Club.
Boca, which has not won a league title since 2008, played its best football in the final minutes, the best chance probably coming in the 87th when Leonardo Somoza sailed a 20-meter (yard) shot just over the crossbar.
In other matches, Jonathan Ramirez scored the winner for Velez in the victory over Independiente. Velez improved to 11 points and Independiente stayed on 10.
Roman Martinez scored the equalizer in the 87th to rally Tigre to its draw with All Boys. Mauro Matos scored in first-half injury time for All Boys. Tigre stayed near the top with 16 points and All Boys improved to 10.
Racing's draw with San Lorenzo improved it to 17 points, in second place behind Boca. Racing has drawn five of nine matches.
Guillermo Farre, Cesar Mansanelli and Hernan Grana scored in Belgrano's victory. Juan Sebastian Veron and Juan Zapata scored for Estudiantes, which have only five points in nine games. Newly promoted Belgrano has 16.
On Saturday, Raul Saavedra scored the winner in San Martin's 2-1 win over Rafaela 2-1, while Martin Rolle scored twice in the second half to rally Olimpo to a 2-2 draw with Arsenal. Emilio Zelaya scored early for Arsenal.
On Monday, Union meets Banfield, Lanus plays Colon and Newell's faces Godoy Cruz.
