Andrew Henderson wins championship
English soccer fans can finally celebrate a world championship thanks to a teenager whose impeccable ball skills scored him the title of world freestyle soccer champion.
Andrew Henderson, from Truro in southwestern England, beat rivals from Brazil, Spain and Japan to win the inaugural World Freestyle Football Championships (WFFC) Tour in Kuala Lumpur, Sky News reported Thursday.
The 19 year old impressed judges by combining juggling, gymnastics and breakdancing in four intense rounds of freestyle soccer battles, defeating France's Gautier Fayolle in the final.
"This has been the most incredible experience of my life," Henderson said after his victory. "I have trained so hard for this moment."
The event, which attracted the world's top 16 freestyle soccer players, was broadcast live to 12 million people in South East Asia.
