American Brad Guzan extends stay at Aston Villa

American goalkeeper Brad Guzan has signed a new three-year contract with Aston Villa.

Villa said Monday that the United States international will join his team on the pre-season tour of the U.S. after agreeing a deal which will keep him at the club until the end of the 2014-15 season.

The 27-year-old Guzan filled in for first choice Shay Given for part of last season while the Irish goalkeeper was injured.

New Villa manager Paul Lambert, who took over from Alex McLeish last month, said ''I've watched Brad and some of his games when he was in the team last year and he was excellent.''

Guzan joined Villa from Major League Soccer's Chivas USA in 2008.
