Almunia has nothing to prove
The goalkeeper has been linked with a return to Spanish football amid reports Wenger is looking to bring in a new No.1 at Emirates Stadium. Fulham veteran Mark Schwarzer is reportedly a target for Wenger and that has led to doubts over Almunia's future with the Gunners after six years in North London. However, after a solid performance in Sunday's Emirates Cup win over Celtic, the 33-year-old confirmed he is planning to stay with Arsenal. "I don't need to convince anybody, I just do my job," Almunia told Sky Sports. "I have a couple more years on my contract and that's it, I'm an Arsenal player." Jack Wilshere also caught the eye in the 3-2 success over Celtic and the teenage midfielder feels he has benefited from his time on loan at Bolton last season. "Obviously I had six months out at Bolton last year and I think that really helped me," said Wilshere. "I think I showed that I've got a bit more experience now and I hope to push on and get more games for Arsenal."
