The Scottish champions are in discussions with the Spaniard, who has just one year left on his Villa contract, after the Premier League club accepted an offer of around £2million. Cuellar, 29, left Rangers for Villa in an £8million move three years ago and McCoist hopes to have him back at Ibrox before his side begin their title defence against Hearts on Saturday. McCoist said: "The ball is in Carlos's court. We hope to hear from him sooner or later. "Carlos's representatives know it would suit us to hear quickly and I would like an answer in the next 24 hours." Rangers have also been linked with a move for their former striker Kenny Miller, who left for Turkish side Bursaspor in January. The Scotland international, who is also reportedly interesting Cardiff, is thought to want to make a quick return to the UK. McCoist said: "I don't know what the situation with Kenny is. I know he wants to come home and I would hazard a guess that Bursaspor may not be the easiest to deal with. "There is nothing to my knowledge at this moment in time. Kenny is obviously a player we know well but there is nothing in the immediate future regarding Kenny." McCoist was speaking after his side wrapped up their pre-season preparations with a comfortable 2-0 friendly win at Blackpool. Steven Davis, fresh from signing a new five-year contract earlier in the day, underlined his value to the club by scoring both goals late in the first half. "Steven always said he wanted to stay at the club," McCoist said. "It was just a matter of thrashing out a deal with his representatives and thankfully that was done. "I was delighted. I said we were hopeful we would get that one over the line and that is the case." McCoist, who succeeded veteran Walter Smith over the summer, is now in good heart for the start of the new Scottish Premier League campaign. The former Scotland striker added: "I thought that was our best pre-season performance, I don't think there is any doubt about that. "The goalkeeper [Allan McGregor] made a great save to keep us level. After that we scored two good goals and deserved to be ahead at half-time. "After that I was really pleased with some of the younger boys, they did well. I am really looking forward to the weekend, the big kick-off - that is what we are all geared up for. "It is a good game for us because it is a very tough game against a team that have strengthened and are generally one of the strongest teams in the country."
