Alkmaar down Ajax to close gap
Pontus Wernbloom opened the scoring with 15 minutes to go before Kolbeinn Sigthorsson sealed victory three minutes later to inflict a first away defeat of the season on Ajax. The Amsterdam side have now lost two consecutive matches and are just two points ahead of AZ while trailing leaders PSV Eindhoven by six points. FC Groningen missed out a top-three placing as they slumped to a 3-0 loss at Heracles Almelo. Samuel Armenteros opened the scoring four minutes before the interval, with second-half strikes from Everton and Mark Looms earning Heracles only their fourth win of the season. Feyenoord continue to struggle at the wrong end of the table but secured a welcome point in a 2-2 draw at home to Heerenveen. Luc Castaignos gave the home side an early lead, but strikes from Mika Vayrynen and Viktor Elm turned things in Heerenveen's favour until a goal from substitute Jerson Cabral nine minutes from time earned the Rotterdam club a share of the points. Ramon Zomer's last minute goal salvaged a point for NEC Nijmegen against mid-table rivals ADO Den Haag. Nathaniel Will's own goal six minutes before half-time had put the visitors in the driving seat - but Zomer's late breakthrough denied them a fourth away win of the campaign. Two goals from Marcus Pedersen helped Vitesse Arnhem brush aside VVV-Venlo 5-1 in a one-sided contest at De Koel. Pedersen struck twice in as many second half minutes, with Miljan Pluim, Julian Jenner and Ismail Aissati also on the scoresheet, as Vitesse claimed their first Eredivisie win since beating Excelsior at the end of September. Ruud Boymans replied from the penalty spot for VVV, but they remain second from bottom in the standings.
