Ajaccio boosts survival hopes
Ajaccio gave their Ligue 1 survival hopes a boost as two goals in two second-half minutes proved enough to see off Dijon 2-1 at the Stade Francois-Coty.
The Corsicans had not won any of their last three league games after a revival either side of the winter break gave them hope of avoiding an instant return to the second tier, but goals from Eduardo (53) and Johan Cavalli (55) put them in command before Dijon pulled one back through Bernard Kumordzi.
Ajaccio join Dijon on 26 points as a result of this win.
Dijon grazed the woodwork in the first minute as Gael Kakuta's pass sent Gregory Thil through and he fired a right-foot shot just wide with Ajaccio goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa scrambling.
Benjamin Andre fired over for the hosts four minutes later after receiving possession in the box, while at the other end Koro Kone's effort after 16 minutes was deflected away for a corner.
Benjamin Corgnet headed over Kakuta's free-kick four minutes later and the visitors also had the final chance of a goalless first period when Kone's shot was tipped wide by Ochoa with four minutes of the half remaining.
Ajaccio created the first opening of the second half as Mehdi Mostefa found Samuel Bouhours on the wing in the 47th minute and his cross returned the ball to Mostefa, whose volley was just off target.
The opening goal came six minutes later as Brazilian forward Eduardo headed home Damien Tiberi's cross, giving Dijon goalkeeper Baptiste Reynet no chance.
The second followed quickly for the hosts as Andre combined well with Fousseni Diawara down the right and the latter's cross found Cavalli, whose powerful shot tore past Reynet.
Dijon halved Ajaccio's advantage when Kumordzi leapt to head home Eric Bautheac's free-kick with 25 minutes to go, but the final chance went the hosts' way in the 79th minute as Reynet smothered Andre's volley from a Cavalli free-kick.
