Abidal: Barcelona was on my mind
Eric Abidal couldn't wait to get back to his club Barcelona as France imploded during its disastrous World Cup run.
France's players boycotted training after Nicolas Anelka's departure and eventually left South Africa after the group stage without a victory, a series of events Abidal labeled a ''disaster.''
''We need to turn the page,'' Abidal said Wednesday. ''We're all responsible for the situation, the players and the coach. The players tried to make the best out of it but the situation inside the changing room was not very good.''
Abidal missed the mood of the two-time defending Spanish champions during the entire fiasco, when he also asked not to be played in the closing 2-1 group defeat to South Africa.
''I was really motivated to get back to training with Barcelona. I really missed it a lot,'' Abidal said. ''It was all very disagreeable. There was a war between the coach and the press and I guess us players paid for it.''
The Barcelona fullback hopes France can now turn the page with new coach Laurent Blanc and said he is still committed to Les Bleus, despite Blanc vowing to drop all 23 players who took part in the World Cup for the team's friendly against Norway on Aug. 11.
