49ers' James top pick in MLS supplemental draft

Charlotte 49ers senior midfielder Evan James has been selected with the first pick of Major League Soccer's supplemental draft by the expansion Montreal Impact.

A native of Ontario, Canada, James played a major role in helping the 49ers reach the College Cup Championship game for the first time in school history this past season, where they lost to North Carolina.

A first-team All-Atlantic 10 selection, James led the 49ers with seven assists.

He ranked second on the 49ers with five goals scored. James finished his career ranked 12th in school history with 63 career points and 13th in the program's history with 22 career goals. He finished 14th in school history with 19 career assists.
