WWE star attacked in Cape Town

BY foxsports • July 31, 2013

WWE star Randy Orton got an unexpected challenger in the ring during a live event in Cape Town, South Africa on Tuesday night.

Orton, standing on the turnbuckle and facing the crowd, was surprised from behind with a shot right in the ... well, let's just say it was below the belt. The whole scene was caught by a fan and posted to YouTube.

The fan in the ring was immediately grabbed by security and dragged away, though it looks like Orton got a shot in with his boot as the guy is hauled off from the ring and apparently taken to jail.

Now, sure, things like this have happened before and have often been part of the show. But this one sure doesn't look like it.

And the WWE is on record saying this was definitely not part of the show, issuing the following statement.

WWE.com has learned that Randy Orton was violently attacked by an audience member during a SmackDown World Tour Live Event in Cape Town, South Africa, this evening. Footage of the attack was captured by a WWE fan and posted to YouTube, and shows the perpetrator striking Orton from behind. The matter is currently under investigation by the local authorities, and the South African fan is being held in jail pending criminal charges. The extent of Orton's injuries are unknown at this time.

Still we gotta ask, are you buying it or is the WWE trying to pull a fast one here? Vote in the poll to the right and let us know.
