Green Bay Packers defensive back Charles Woodson may out with a broken collarbone, but that doesn't mean he can't help tackle a daunting foe.
The eight-time Pro Bowl selection and 1997 Heisman Trophy winner said Thursday that he'll donate $100,000 to the Red Cross to assist families affected by Hurricane Sandy.
Appearing at a Democratic Party rally at Green Bay's Austin Straubel International Airport ahead of a campaign stop by President Obama, Woodson said he's grateful for the sense of community that has allowed the Packers to thrive in Green Bay and that he wants to give back to other communities that are hurting.
That certainly applies to cities and towns along the East Coast, where some reports estimate that the hurricane has done $60 billion in damage in the past week.
Woodson, 36, has a history of giving back. In 2009, the former Wolverine donated $2 million to the University of Michigan's C.S. Mott Children's Hospital.
He was injured during the Packers' Week 7 win against the St. Louis Rams and is expected to return sometime in December.
