MINNEAPOLIS -- If only for a short time, Lorenzo Brown is back with the team that drafted him.
The Timberwolves called up the point guard from the NBA Developmental League's Grand Rapids (Mich.) Drive on Wednesday, signing him to a 10-day contract. In order to make room on the 15-man roster, they waived center Miroslav Raduljica, whose second 10-day deal came to an end.
Minnesota had to either release the Serbian big man or sign him for the rest of the season.
Instead, they went with some point guard depth behind Mo Williams and Zach LaVine, with Ricky Rubio still sidelined by an ankle injury. Coach and president of basketball operations Flip Saunders is familiar with Brown, having drafted him in the second round of the 2013 NBA Draft (52nd overall).
Brown spent training camp with Minnesota that year but was released before the start of the season. The 76ers picked him up, and he made 26 appearances with them, averaging 2.5 points, 1.1 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 8.6 minutes per game.
A North Carolina State product, Brown has spent this entire season in the D-League. He was the Drive's second-leading scorer at 16.8 points per game and averaged 3.8 assists and 5.3 rebounds a contest after playing in 19 games for the Pistons affiliate.
Brown was at the Wolves' shootaround Wednesday morning ahead of their game against Boston. Williams will miss that game for personal reasons, so Brown is expected to be active and could play significant minutes.
