MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota Timberwolves rookie point guard Ricky Rubio underwent successful surgery on Wednesday to repair tears to the anterior cruciate ligament and lateral collateral ligament in his left knee.

Rubio, who was originally diagnosed with only an ACL tear, traveled to Vail, Colo., for the surgery, which was performed by Dr. Richard Steadman. The injury occurred with 16 seconds remaining in the team's March 9 game against Los Angeles. Rubio will miss the remainder of the 2011-12 season.
