ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Wild recalled forward Brett Sutter from the American Hockey League Monday and placed defenseman Keith Ballard and forward Ryan Carter on injured reserve.

Ballard has been out since a scary hit along the boards last week. He was immediately sent to the hospital and later released after suffering multiple facial fractures and a concussion. Minnesota previously recalled Justin Falk to help fill in for Ballard on defense.

Carter missed Saturday's game at Phoenix with an upper-body injury. Signed as a free agent in October, Carter has two goals in eight assists in 26 games this season for the Wild.
