ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Wild recalled forward Brett Sutter from the American Hockey League Monday and placed defenseman Keith Ballard and forward Ryan Carter on injured reserve.

Ballard has been out since a scary hit along the boards last week. He was immediately sent to the hospital and later released after suffering multiple facial fractures and a concussion. Minnesota previously recalled Justin Falk to help fill in for Ballard on defense.

Carter missed Saturday's game at Phoenix with an upper-body injury. Signed as a free agent in October, Carter has two goals in eight assists in 26 games this season for the Wild.

Sutter, 27, was signed in the offseason. The 6-foot, 200-pound forward has played in 54 NHL games with the Calgary Flames and Carolina Hurricanes. He had five goals and nine assists in 26 games with the Iowa Wild of the AHL this season.
