What a bear! Fuzzy beast makes way to Daytona Beach school

Published Feb. 5, 2015 9:30 a.m. ET

Daytona Beach, Florida has long been famous for fast cars and some of the most exciting racing that NASCAR has to offer. In less than three short weeks, Daytona International Speedway will host the 57th annual Daytona 500 - NASCAR's biggest and most prestigious race - on FOX.

It seems, however, that parts of the Daytona Beach area are also known for something else - bears. Just this week, cameras caught a large black bear rummaging through a trash can at a local high school just a few miles from the speedway.

It seems this isn't the first time a bear has been seen near the school, which is located in a heavily wooded area. From what school administrators said about the bear's latest appearance, it probably won't be the last.

So if you're headed down to Daytona for Speedweeks 2015, keep your eyes open for black bears. They probably won't harm you, but it's always a good idea to know who's in the neighborhood.
