West Virginia names Clint Trickett starting QB
Clint Trickett will open the season as West Virginia's starting quarterback, coach Dana Holgorsen said Tuesday.
"Clint is 100 percent healthy and is ready to play." Holgorsen said in a release. "He worked hard last season and showed a lot of ability and leadership and deserves the chance to lead the team as a senior.
Holgorsen started seven games a year ago and missed spring practice after undergoing shoulder surgery. He completed 123-of-233 passes for 1,605 yards, seven touchdowns and seven interceptions after transferring from Florida State following the 2012 season.
Trickett threw for 309 yards in his first start last season, 30-21 win over Oklahoma State. He also led WVU to a win over TCU by completing 25-of-41 passes for 267 yards with two touchdowns and a pair of interceptions.
WVU opens its season in the Georgia Dome against Alabama on Aug. 30 at 3:30 p.m. ET.
