Watch: Cogliano turns in amazing goal
Ducks center Andrew Cogliano produced what might stand up as the team’s shot of the season in the first period Saturday.
By catching up to a puck that bounded off the boards up ice, Cogliano first collected it, then slipped and fell forward, flailing his stick while sliding and knocking the shot past San Jose goalie Antti Niemi for a 2-1 lead.
The Ducks have been scuffling for goals in exhibition games, with just seven in five games before Saturday.
They needed only 4:46 to score Saturday, with Daniel Winnik redirecting a shot by Ducks defenseman Mark Fistric.
San Jose rushed past, however, with three consecutive power-play goals in less than an eight-minute span into the second period, the third being Dan Boyle’s shot past Ducks goalie Jonas Hiller on a two-man advantage.
San Jose added a fourth power-play goal in the third period to lead, 6-4.
