Watch a special-needs high school player score a TD on Thanksgiving
The spirit of Thanksgiving was on display in New Jersey when Audobon faced Haddon Township on Thursday.
The schools put rivalries aside as Audobon senior Michael Arechavala took a lateral on a kickoff and returned it 65 yards for a touchdown.
The charm? Archevala is a special-needs student with Down syndrome.
He was accompanied down the sideline by his teammates, and the opponents congratulated Archevala in the end zone.
Arechavala is so popular at school that he's known as "The Mayor."
"I get chills just talking about it," Audubon coach Dom Koehl told Philly.com.
Audubon won the rivalry game, 45-6.
"Football is a fraternity," Haddon Township coach Mike Sheridan said. "You try to win. We're all competitors. But at the end of the day, we're all brothers."
