Washington overpowers Arizona softball
TUCSON, Ariz. – Sixteenth-ranked Arizona softball (21-10, 1-2 Pac-12) failed to capitalize on nine hits and suffered an 8-3 loss to No. 17 Washington on Monday night.
Arizona left the bases loaded on two occasions and stranded nine runners in the game and 24 in the three-game series. The Huskies (24-8, 2-1)won two of three games in the series.
Hallie Wilson went 3 for 4 and hit her fourth home run for the Wildcats, and Lauren Young contributed two hits, including a two-run double.
Arizona used a trio of pitchers. Estela Piñon allowed three runs, two earned, on three hits with two walks and a strikeout. The junior took the loss to drop to 7-3 on the season. Shelby Babcock allowed five runs on six hits with two strikeouts in four innings, and Nancy Bowling pitched a scoreless seventh inning.
Washington hit three home runs in the game: Missy Taukeiaho in the first, Victoria Hayward in the fourth and Kaitlin Inglesby in the sixth.
Arizona heads to Salt Lake City for a three-game series with Utah starting on Thursday.
