Was Dwayne Bowe just looking to chow down at Sonic?

By Sid Saraf, FOXSports.com Chiefs wide receiver Dwyane Bowe was arrested over the weekend and charged with speeding and possession of a controlled substance. Details of the arrest are starting to come out. According to KCTV5, Bowe was pulled over in Riverside, a suburb of Kansas City, just before midnight on Sunday. The police officer said Bowe asked him if the local Sonic was open. I can understand that. If you've seen those TV commercials before, the place does look good:

What I find amazing is that there's actually a Sonic in Kansas City. I've seen their ads a million times, but it's nearly impossible to find one. Anyway, the police officer reported a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car. He discovered a black bag with a pair of containers that held 6.6 and 3.8 grams of what is believed to be marijuana. A drug-sniffing dog also apparently found another 4.2 grams of a marijuana-like substance in a black backpack which one of the passengers, a George A. Thompson, claimed belonged to him. A search of Thompson allegedly turned up a two hand-rolled cigarettes, which appeared to contain 2.2 grams of marijuana. That's quite an (alleged) party right there. Police also discovered Bowe's Florida driver's license was apparently expired, as was his car insurance. To nobody's surprise, Bowe's lawyer says his client is innocent. "My investigation reveals that Dwayne Bowe is unequivocally, 100 percent innocent in this matter," attorney Kevin E. J. Regan said in a statement. "We look forward to clearing his good name at our earliest opportunity." So, there's that. We'll have to see what happens. Bowe could be facing a suspension from the NFL once the case is resolved. To his credit, he did release a statement apologizing for his actions: "I apologize to the Hunt Family, Coach Reid, my teammates and Chiefs fans for the distraction I have caused the team this week. Due to the nature of the pending matter, I am unable to make any further comment on the situation," Bowe said. Questions? Comments?
