Warlley Alves runs over Marcio Alexandre to win 'TUF Brazil 3' title
During "The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 3," Warlley Alves was often considered a little too cocky and a little too confident while bragging about how he planned to run roughshod through the other fighters in the competition.
He backed up every word with two dominant wins to make it to the finale, and then Alves proved why he was the best middleweight on the show with a completely one-sided victory over fellow Team Sonnen teammate Marcio "Lyoto" Alexandre on Saturday night.
Alves came out aggressive from the moment the referee said go and he was all over Alexandre and never slowed down much until the fight was over. Alves dropped his opponent early before transitioning to the ground to look for the finish, but Alexandre survived.
From that moment on, Alexandre was gun shy facing off with Alves during exchanges, instead opting for the clinch most of the time while attempting a few counter strikes that never really worked.
Alves continued to pummel his former roommate with heavy punches while tossing him to the mat whenever he saw fit. Finally in the third round with the decision already clearly in his favor, Alves saw an opening to lock up a guillotine choke before dropping to his back, giving Alexandre nowhere to go. A few seconds later, Alexandre was unconscious and Alves stood proud as the new "Ultimate Fighter Brazil" winner.
"I'm really very happy, I'm very proud," Alves said. "I don't practice jiu-jitsu, I don't practice wrestling, I don't practice individual sports. I practice MMA. This is a dream come true."
Alves was a force of nature all season long and he carried that same momentum into his final fight with Alexandre as well. It's likely Alves will drop back down to his natural weight of 170 pounds now that the show is completed and he should be a welcome addition to an already stacked welterweight division.
