Wambach to speak at University of Kentucky on Tuesday
FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) Retired U.S. soccer star Abby Wambach is scheduled to speak at the University of Kentucky just days after she was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence.
The Student Activities Board at the University of Kentucky confirmed Wambach is the scheduled speaker for the group's Women of the World event at 8 p.m. Tuesday. The event at the university's Memorial Hall is open the public and people don't need tickets to attend.
Wambach is a World Cup soccer champion and a two-time Olympic gold medalist. She announced her retirement in October.
Police in Portland, Oregon, arrested Wambach on Saturday and charged her with driving under the influence of intoxicants. She posted an apology on her Facebook page taking full responsibility for her actions and promising to never let it happen again.
