Walsh Jennings, Ross advance in World Series

LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) Top-seeded Americans Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross beat Canada's Heather Bansley and Sarah Paven 21-15, 21-18 on Thursday to complete pool play 3-0 in the World Series of Beach Volleyball.

''Our goal is to play for the gold,'' Walsh-Jennings said.

Top-seeded Sean Rosenthal and Phil Dalhausser led six U.S. men's teams into the round of 16. Rosenthal and Dalhausser beat two German teams Thursday to finish 3-0 in pool play, topping Markus Bockermann and Mischa Urbatzka 21-16, 18-21, 15-12 and Alexander Walkenhorst and Stefan Windscheif 17-21, 21-11, 15-11.

''We're not playing great, but we're playing good enough to win in the third set,'' Dalhausser said. ''It's building a bit of character.''

Both top-seeded U.S. teams earned first-match byes Friday.
