EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — Following Saturday night's first-round playoff loss, the Minnesota Vikings ended up with the 23rd pick in April's NFL draft.
Minnesota finished 10-6 this season, second in the NFC North. Of the four teams eliminated this weekend, the Vikings have the third pick of the group. Minnesota drafts behind Cincinnati and Washington (who's pick belongs to the St. Louis Rams as part of the Robert Griffin III trade) and ahead of the Indianapolis Colts, who finished 11-6.
The first round of the 2013 draft will be held on Thursday, April 25. The second and third rounds will follow on April 26 with the final four rounds occurring on April 27.
The Kansas City Chiefs own the first-overall pick after finishing 2-14. In the NFC North, the Detroit Lions draft fifth and the Chicago Bears own the 20th pick.
Last year, owning the third-overall selection, Minnesota traded back one spot and picked left tackle Matt Kalil, who finished a strong first season. The Vikings also traded back into the first round and selected safety Harrison Smith, an impact player in the team's secondary, with the 29th pick.
