Vikings can't afford mistakes this offseason
Gerhart might need surgery: Running back Toby Gerhart was diagnosed with a sprained MCL in his left knee after being hurt during Sunday's season-ending loss.
The injury now could lead Gerhart to possible surgery. Frazier said Tuesday the MCL is damaged and Gerhart will be re-evaluated in two to three weeks to determine if surgery is necessary.
"We're going to evaluate where he is and make a determination about whether or not he's going to need surgery," Frazier said. "We're in hopes that he will not have to have surgery, but we'll have to revisit it in about three weeks and take a look again."
Gerhart, a second-round pick by the team in 2010, was filling in for star running back Adrian Peterson, who had surgery to repair the ACL and MCL and correct some meniscus damage in his left knee on Friday.
The team believes Peterson will be ready for the start of the 2012 season, but know the status of both backs is in question.
