Velazquez rides 2 stakes winners on closing day at Aqueduct

NEW YORK (AP) John Velazquez rode both winners of the $100,000 stakes for 3-year-olds on Sunday at Aqueduct.

Overall, Velazquez had three wins on closing day at Aqueduct. New York racing shifts to Belmont Park on Friday.

The two stakes were captured by identical 1 1/4 length margins and Velazquez's mounts were favored in both.

Sudden Surprise was the front-running winner of the New York Stallion over Lucky Lurie. The 4-5 choice trained by Todd Pletcher paid $3.70 to win, improving to 6 for 9.

The time was 1:17.66 for the 6 1/2 furlongs.

Time and Motion came off the pace to take the Memories of Silver for fillies on the turf. She is 2 for 2 on the season for trainer Jimmy Toner and paid $4.20 to win.

The time was 1:45.05 for the 1 1/16 miles.
