US sweeps Russia in World League match
LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) Matt Anderson had 15 points on 14 kills and an ace and the U.S. men's national volleyball team swept Russia Saturday night to improve to 4-0 in World League play.
Taylor Sander added 11 points in the 25-19, 25-23, 25-17 win at the Walter Pyramid on the Long Beach State campus.
Denis Biriukov had 14 points for Russia, which is winless in World League pool play despite being ranked No. 2 in the world. The fourth-ranked U.S. men also defeated Russia in five sets on Friday night.
The top finishers in each pool advance to the annual international tournament's final round in Florence, Italy, July 16-20.
The United States is without three-time Olympian Reid Priddy, who injured his knee in a victory over Bulgaria on May 24. He required surgery that will keep him out for the rest of the season.
