US Open trophy attracts crowd at Rangers game
ARLINGTON, Texas – The biggest attraction at Globe Life Park Friday had nothing to do with the Texas Rangers.
The U.S. Open golf trophy, which is touring the country, was behind home plate and drew attention from everyone from former Rangers great Ivan Rodriguez to manager Jeff Banister.
Even Rangers assistant hitting coach Bobby Jones wanted to see the trophy. Of course he was looking for his name. He found it as Bobby Jones won the U.S. Open four times from 1923 to 1930.
Maybe the trophy will rub off on the golf game of some of the Rangers. It can't hurt.
"My game," was Banister's reply when asked what his handicap was.

As for Rodriguez, he wanted Jones to see the trophy.
"Bobby Jones your name is on the trophy," Rodriguez screamed towards the batting cages.
The trophy, which was on the concourse for fans to take pictures with during the first five innings Friday, will head from Texas to Phoenix for more promotional stops.
This marks the first year the U.S. Open will be televised on Fox Sports 1. The tournament, will be played at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash., begins June 21.
