Urgency missing as Clips squander another lead

Urgency missing as Clips squander another lead

The Clippers are used to closing out games, but in their last two losses, most recently Monday at Golden State, the team hasn't done the job.

Up 97-95 with three minutes left, the Clippers failed to score another point in a 104-97 loss to the Warriors.

"They hit a couple shots and we couldn't get anything going on the offensive end," Clippers forward Blake Griffin said. "We just didn't play with a greater sense of urgency the whole game."

Griffin and the Clippers also blew a late lead Saturday to the San Antonio Spurs.

Like they did against the Spurs, turnovers cost the Clippers again, committing 18 against the Warriors.

"We're just having too many careless turnovers. Whether it's one, two, three, or four it doesn't matter," Clippers Coach Vinny Del Negro said. "It has an outcome on this game and it (also) has a definite effect on the game."

NOTES, QUOTES

--Chris Paul has gotten out of the gates slowly, scoring just one basket in the first three quarters of the Clippers' win at Portland last Thursday and during a loss against San Antonio on Saturday.

In both of those games, though, Paul owned the fourth quarter. Monday at Golden State, though, was the opposite.

After scoring 20 points in the first half, missing only a long jump shot he took anticipating a foul call, Paul went scoreless in the fourth, missing all five shots he took.

"It was a bad night," Paul said. "Down the stretch is where we are usually at our best. I made some defensive mistakes and offensively I couldn't make a shot down the stretch. I took a tough shot at the end and got it blocked.

"Tonight, this loss is on me."

-- The Clippers have their second losing streak of the season after falling to the Warriors on Monday. The Clippers' first losing streak this season came in the two games following a season-opening win at Golden State.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "He's a starter coming off the bench." -- Clippers G Chris Paul on sixth man Mo Williams. Williams scored 22 points off the bench in the Clippers' seven-point loss to Golden State Monday.
