LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) Untapable will not defend her title in the $2 million Breeders' Cup Distaff because of a slight fever.
Owner Ron Winchell announced the scratch Tuesday on Twitter, calling it ''very disappointing after preparing all year for a repeat.'' Untapable was 5-1 on the morning line for Friday's race at Keeneland.
Last year's Distaff victory at Santa Anita capped a brilliant season in which Untapable won six of seven stakes, including the Kentucky Oaks. The loss was against colts in the Haskell Invitational. She captured the Eclipse Award for champion 3-year-old filly.
Untapable was not as dominant this season, with a 1-4-1 mark in six starts. The lone victory was the Apple Blossom Handicap at Oaklawn Park in April.
