OKAYAMA, Japan (AP) The United States overpowered Cuba 25-15, 25-11, 25-15 to remain top of the standings at the women's volleyball World Cup on Tuesday.
Tetori Dixon led the way with 13 points and five blocks as the U.S. improved to 7-1 for 22 points in the standings. Four-time World Cup winner Cuba dropped to 2-6.
''After a bit of a slow start, I liked how aggressive we were against a team, Cuba, that we have great respect for,'' U.S. coach Karch Kiraly said.
In other matches, Russia bounced back from Monday's defeat to Serbia with a comfortable 25-14, 25-10, 25-20 win over Peru to stay one point back.
''Our challenge today was to find what we needed to win after losing last night and we were able to do that,'' Russia captain Ekaterina Kosianenko said.
China also stayed one point off the pace after defeating Argentina 25-14, 25-15, 25-20 for its fifth straight win. South Korea dropped the opening set but rallied to defeat the Dominican Republic 18-25, 25-17, 25-23, 25-18.
Elsewhere, Kenya beat Algeria 25-14, 25-11, 25-11.
The third round of the 12-nation tournament begins on Friday in Nagoya.
