Umpire leaves Marlins-Dodgers game after HBP deflects off Ichiro

MIAMI (AP) -- Home plate umpire Brian Knight left the game between the Miami Marlins and the Los Angeles Dodgers in the fifth inning on Friday night after getting struck in the mask and neck area by a deflected pitch.

Miami's Ichiro Suzuki was hit with a pitch from Dodgers reliever Josh Fields. After striking Ichiro near the shoulder the ball caromed into Knight, who dropped to one knee and was clearly shaken up.

Knight was tended to by a trainer and walked off the field not long afterward through the Dodgers' dugout, getting a few pats on the back as he slowly strode past.

Crew chief Bill Miller moved from second base to behind the plate to take Knight's spot. The game was delayed for about 13 minutes.
