OMAHA, Neb. -- Arizona swimmer Clark Burckle qualified for the Olympics on Friday by posting a second-place finish in the 200-meter breaststroke at the U.S. Olympic trials.

Burckle finished in 2:09.97, beating out 130 other competitors for a spot in London next month.

“I can’t even put it in to words right now,” Burckle said of the win. “It’s the epitome of what a swimmer dreams about. Once every four years we have the limelight, and I’m just speechless. It’s been such hard work and I’m so honored to be part of the team.”

Matt Grevers had another impressive showing Friday night, posting a third-place finish in the 100 free to qualify for an Olympic relay team, and Amanda Beard finished fifth in the 200 breast semifinals with her time of 2:25.90 to advance to Saturday night’s finals.

“We had another amazing night,” Arizona head coach Eric Hansen said. “Clark had an outstanding performance, Grevers had a nice addition and we are looking forward to watching Amanda in the finals tomorrow night.”
