UA announces team awards; Hill named MVP

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Solomon Hill was named the Arizona men's basketball Most Valuable Player on Wednesday, as coach Sean Miller announced the team's season awards.

A 6-foot-6, 226-pound junior forward from Los Angeles, Calif., Hill averaged 12.9 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game in 35 appearances, all starts. He led Arizona in rebounding, field goal percentage (.500) and assists (91), and his 3-point percentage (.389) was a career best. He scored in double figures a team-leading 27 times, scored 20 or more points three times and notched 11 double-doubles.

A 2012 first-team All-Pac-12 honoree, Hill led the Wildcats in minutes played and has started 78 consecutive games.

Kyle Fogg, a 6-foot-3, 188-pound senior guard from Brea, Calif., was
named Best Defender and Most Improved Player.  He led Arizona in scoring
with a 13.5 points per game average in 35 appearances (34 starts),
shooting 42.0 percent from the field, 44.4 percent from 3-point range and 78.9 percent from the
free-throw line. Fogg scored in double figures 25 times, including seven
games with 20 or more points, and posted two double-doubles. He led
Arizona with 37 steals and was the only player to garner two awards.


Alex Jacobson, a 7-foot, 253-pound senior center from Santa Ana, Calif., earned the Mo Udall Captains Award. He averaged 0.3 points and 0.4 rebounds per game in eight appearances.

Max Wiepking, a 6-foot-6, 210-pound junior forward from Englewood, Colo., earned Best Teammate honors after averaging 1.0 points and 0.8 rebounds per game in four appearances. He played a career-high four minutes against Bryant on Dec. 22.

Kyryl Natyazhko, a 6-foot-11, 275-pound junior center from Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine, earned the Golden "A" Award, which is given to the team member with the highest fall grade-point average. He averaged 1.1 points and 0.6 rebounds per game in 22 appearances (six starts). He logged season-high totals of six rebounds and 20 minutes played on Dec. 17 against Gonzaga.
