Twins offense picking up steam

The Minnesota Twins' offense got off to a rough start this season, averaging just 1.6 runs over the first nine games, all losses.

But since then, Minnesota has been one of the hottest teams in all of Major League Baseball.

Here's how the Twins offense has been producing in several offensive categories as well as their MLB rank since April 15:

Runs/game: 5.57, 4th

Batting average: .311, 2nd (Texas, .317 is No. 1)

On-base percentage: .388, 1st

Slugging percentage: .533, 2nd (Mets, .631)

Home runs: 11, tied for 2nd (Mets, 19)

Perhaps the hottest hitter of them all has been Eduardo Nunez.

Nunez has played in 12 games so far for the Twins with seven starts. In each of his starts, he has at least one hit -- Nunez has four multiple-hit games -- and is 14 for 29 overall (.482) in games when he starts.

Other notes:

-- Joe Mauer has 14 walks this season and just five strikeouts. That plus-9 differential is the largest of any MLB player this year.

-- Kyle Gibson has a career 3.64 ERA in games pitched before the All-Star break.

-- In his career, Washington's Gio Gonzalez is 53-30 with a 2.83 ERA vs. National League teams and 38-38 with a 4.49 ERA against American League clubs.

-- The Nationals have scored 60.3 percent of their total runs with two outs. Their 38 two-out runs is the most in the majors.
