Twins minor-league stars of the week: May 15

Published May. 15, 2015 2:00 p.m. ET

With the calendar now midway into the month of May, we unveil our fourth edition of the Twins' minor league stars of the week. This week's FOXSportsNorth.com Minor League Player of the Week is Jose Berrios, who pitched his first career shutout for Double-A Chattanooga to continue his impressive 2015 season. See what else Berrios and the rest of this week's stars did across Minnesota's minor league affiliates.

TRIPLE-A ROCHESTER

Player of the Week: RF Reynaldo Rodriguez

2015 stats: .306/.373/.488, 3 HR, 15 RBI, 9 2B in 32 games

Recent highlights: Rodriguez, in his third season in the Twins' organization, has been the one mainstay in Rochester's outfield since the promotions of Eddie Rosario and Aaron Hicks to the majors. Over his last eight games, Rodriguez is batting .344 with two home runs and five RBI. That streak includes five multi-hit games. Rodriguez, a native of Colombia who turns 29 in July, has never played in the majors.

Pitcher of the Week: LHP Pat Dean

2015 stats: 3-2, 1.93 ERA, 28 K, 9 BB in 42 IP

Recent highlights: Dean made only one start in the last week, but it was a gem. Rochester's left-hander pitched a shutout against Toledo on Monday, surrendering just three hits (two singles and a double) in the Red Wings' 4-0 win. The shutout came after Dean had two of his rockier outings of the year -- the only two starts in which he'd allowed more than one run. Though Dean racked up just four strikeouts in his complete game, he also didn't walk a batter.

DOUBLE-A NEW BRITAIN

Player of the Week: RF Adam Brett Walker

2015 stats: .252/.297/.563, 9 HR, 25 RBI, 8 2B in 32 games

Recent highlights: This award could have gone to fellow outfielder Max Kepler, who is batting .433 in his last eight games. However, Walker's recent run production was too hard to ignore. Over the last week (eight games), Walker drove in nine runs and hit two homers, two doubles and a triple. Power has always been the 23-year-old Walker's best tool, and he's continued to display it so far with Chattanooga. Strikeouts are still an issue, though; he's fanned 42 times this year and drawn just eight walks.

Pitcher of the Week: RHP Jose Berrios

2015 stats: 4-1, 2.60 ERA, 53 K, 15 BB in 45 IP

Recent highlights: Berrios made two starts since the last edition of the minor league stars of the week, and he shined in both outings -- particularly his most recent one. In nine innings against Birmingham on Wednesday, Berrios allowed just two hits and racked up eight strikeouts to pick up his fourth win of the year and first career shutout. One start earlier, Berrios allowed two runs and fanned eight in eight innings, earning a no-decision in Chattanooga's 4-2 win.

HIGH-A FORT MYERS

Player of the Week: C Alex Swim

2015 stats: .341/.369/.724, 13 RBI, 2 2B in 31 games

Recent highlights: Swim finally had his hitting streak snapped at 16 games when he went 0-for-4 against Dunedin on Wednesday, but he has still been arguably the Miracle's best hitter this year. Over the last week, Swim hit .346 (9 for 26) with three RBI and just one strikeout in his last six games. Swim hasn't hit for much power -- he has just two doubles this year -- his impressive batting average certainly jumps out.

Pitcher of the Week: RHP Chih-Wei Hu

2015 stats: 4-0, 1.03 ERA, 36 K, 6 BB in 35 IP

Recent highlights: Hu is no stranger to this list, as he has previously earned Pitcher of the Week honors for Fort Myers. With the numbers the right-hander has continued to put up, it's perhaps no surprise. Hu's latest outing was six scoreless innings against Dunedin in which he struck out six and gave up just four hits. As a result, Hu's ERA dropped even closer to 1.00; his 1.03 ERA is the best among all starting pitchers in the Florida State League.

LOW-A CEDAR RAPIDS

Player of the Week: LF Max Murphy

2015 stats: .274/.338/.419, 2 HR, 16 RBI, 5 2B in 29 games

Recent highlights: Murphy, a Robbinsdale, Minn., native, recently had a seven-game hitting streak that ended Thursday. During that stretch he hit .467 (14 for 30) with two homers and nine RBI. This is Murphy's second season of pro ball after the Twins drafted the hometown kid in the ninth round of last year's draft.

Pitcher of the Week: RHP Jared Wilson

2015 stats: 4-0, 1.98 ERA, 17 K, 15 BB in 27 1/3 IP

Recent highlights: Wilson earned his fourth win of the season Monday when he pitched five shutout innings in Cedar Rapids' 3-1 victory over Peoria. Though Wilson walked more batters (3) than he struck out (2) in that outing, he lowered his ERA to under 2.00. Wilson was a 19th-round pick of the Twins in the 2013 draft and is in his second year with the Kernels.
