The Cleveland Indians outdueled the Chicago White Sox to win a low-scoring contest for the second straight day.
They figure to like their chances to keep Chicago in check again Sunday with Carlos Carrasco on the mound.
The Indians (73-67) received seven strong innings from T.J. House in a 2-1, 10-inning victory Friday, then saw Corey Kluber turn in a five-hitter in a 3-1 win Saturday.
Cleveland is within five games of first-place Kansas City in the AL Central after dropping three of four to Detroit earlier in the week.
"That's the only choice we have right now to put the past behind us," Kluber said. "Whatever happened the night before doesn't have any bearing on the next game."
The Indians will try to nail down a home sweep behind Carrasco (6-4, 2.94 ERA), who has settled in nicely after rejoining the rotation. He's 3-0 with a 0.90 ERA in five starts since Aug. 10. He had fallen into a bullpen role after posting a 6.95 ERA in his first four starts of the season.
He gave up 10 hits Tuesday over 5 1-3 innings against Detroit, but limited the damage to one run in Cleveland's 4-2 loss, striking out a career-best 10. The right-hander was in line for the win until closer Cody Allen gave up a three-run homer in the ninth.
"He really dug deep," manager Terry Francona said of Carrasco. "He pitched out of so many binds and executed some unbelievable pitches. It flew past encouraging."
Carrasco held Chicago to one run over 6 2-3 innings while fanning seven in a 3-2 road win on Aug. 28. He had been 0-4 with a 6.81 ERA in seven career matchups with the White Sox.
Jose Ramirez and Michael Brantley keyed Cleveland's offense Saturday with each collecting three hits. Brantley is batting .395 during a 10-game hitting streak and has scored 16 runs with 15 RBIs in his last 20 games against Chicago. Ramirez has hit .328 over his last 16 games after posting a .205 average through his first 31 contests.
Chicago (63-78) has dropped 13 of 17 overall and seven of eight away from home. Jose Abreu was 0 for 4 to end his hitting streak at 14 games and the White Sox were hitless with runners in scoring position for the third time in four games.
"We had some chances tonight and just didn't hit anything out of it," manager Robin Ventura said.
They're 8 for 59 in those situations over the last eight contests.
Scott Carroll (5-9, 5.07) is 1-4 with a 6.58 ERA over his last seven games, though two of his victories this year have come against the Indians. The most recent was a 6-2 road win on July 12 when he yielded two hits over five shutout innings.
The right-hander lost for the third time in four starts on Aug. 29 when he gave up seven runs - three earned - and 10 hits in five-plus innings of a 7-1 defeat against Detroit.
Chicago has totaled four runs and batted .192 during a three-game skid against Cleveland.
