Toreros held off by Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Kevin Bailey scored 18 points, including a key basket down the stretch, and Portland defeated San Diego 70-68 Thursday night.

Bailey scored with 13 seconds left to give the Pilots (11-18, 4-10 West Coast) a 66-62 lead. Bryce Pressley and Ryan Nicholas each made a pair of free throws in the final seconds for Portland.

Ryan Nicholas and Derrick Rodgers scored 15 points apiece and Thomas van der Mars had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Pilots.

Johnny Dee led the Toreros (13-15, 6-7) with 13 points, 11 of them coming in the second half. Chris Manresa and Ken Rancifer scored 12 points apiece for San Diego, which has lost seven of its last nine after beginning the WCC season 4-0.
